FAQ

aka frequently asked questions

Q: I can’t open or save attachments in Outlook Express.

A: Click on “Tools”, “Options”, “Security”
Remove the check mark from the box that is followed by “Do not allow Attachments to be saved or opened
that could potentially be a virus”
That’s it, access to the attachments should be restored now.

Q: My Antivirus software found a few nasties when it scanned the hard disk, so it’s working fine?!

A: Not quite. The first line of defence is the prevention of anything unwanted coming in. By not intercepting “a few” infected files on the way in your AV software has disqualified itself and should be replaced by something more up to the job

Q: What is the difference between a virus, a worm and a trojan???

A: A virus is a manmade program or piece of code that causes an unexpected, usually negative, event. Viruses are often disguised as games or images with clever marketing titles such as "****** naked" (replace ***** with the name of any celebrity)

A Computer Worm is a virus residing in the active memory of a computer and duplicating itself. It may send replicated copies of itself to other computers, such as through e-mail or Internet Relay Chat (IRC).

A Trojan horse program is malicious software that pretends to be a benign application; a Trojan horse program purposely does something unexpected. Because they do not replicate, Trojans are not viruses, however, they can be just as destructive.
