Sometimes there is no simple diagnosis of a computer problem. In these cases we work onsite in the usual environment of the machine to establish the reason for the malfunction.
Onsite service is always going to be more expensive than offsite for one simple reason: it is exclusive work. A machine in our workshop can be put on the bench, a maintenance programme be started on it and than be left alone, while the engineer is attending another PC, doing a quotation or other administrational work. Onsite the engineer has to wait it out, no matter how long it will take. While we can perfectly understand, that people might be concerned when giving away their PC and their data, sometimes it simply does not make economical sense to have the job done there and then. In any case you will be informed about the approximate costs of the job and can decide then how to continue.
